Carolina- RIP- May 7th, 2013

CAROLINA
RIP- May 7th, 2013

CAROLINA came to us a mysterious dog; beautiful, kind and strong.
They said she had been penned and bred; something we could tell was wrong.
But you would never know by her regal manner.
She was the most human dog, I will ever encounter.

Her life before us must have been brash.
Because every time she got the chance she would dash.
She kind of acted like it was a game.
Until she ended up, in the Animal Humane.

Even, they, kept her separate and knew she was smart.
I’m telling you reader, she made her own mark.
She was the only “actual” dog that I ever had.
Because to tell the truth, I don’t like dogs…I know…that is sad!

If you said, “sit” or “fetch” or “catch that ball”.
She would just look at you like you were a brick wall.
But talk to her sweet in full English.
And my, oh my, she would respond quite keenish.

But Carolina was different, she was my sweet friend.
And not like a dog, even down to the end.
She was a golden “Mountain Kerr”, I’m told.
And she lived past 20 years, very old.

Once my mother said, “Oh no, She’s been eating sand.”
But it was her white whiskers; she looked like an old man.
She never barked… at all… through the years.
Except one night at 2am, when seeing a family of deer.

Now she was scared of thunder and broke through many a cat door.
Then she wasn’t happy till in our laps and off the floor.
She loved every cat and dog of all kinds.
Even though, Sweet Pea, was jealous of her all the time.

Even if you stepped on her or the kids jumped on her head
She never moved and just lay there playing dead.
She earned her certification in NC / SC Foster Care.
She deserved every pat and she had many her share.

She never jumped up or put her paws on your knees or chair.
She sat properly on the floor with her hands crossed so fair.
Tea parties and dress up or sing her a song.
She was so giving she’d always play along.
She was loved by all, the most intelligent dog, I’ve ever known.
After meeting her everyone agrees, as it was always shown.
She always obeyed every command on queue.
Except when Miss Debbie had a walk to the lake over due.

She only had one vice, rambling at night for food scraps.
She even got sly stealing cat food during our naps.
Yes Carolina was special, I tell everyone.
And she has one pup, named Savannah, that’s fun.

Savannah is pretty and looks like her mom.
But she’s not trained and definitely, NOT calm.
But Carolina was like an old lady, not wanting to play.
She followed us everywhere and slept right in our way.

The kids will all miss her, many friends and family too.
But she was tired and hurting and knew her time was due.
I called her a hybrid, ½ dog and ½ girl.
So I know she went to heaven when she left this world.

She was given lots of medicine but they were in vain.
Cause the itching and tumors wouldn’t ease cancer pain.
She started with bad nightmares, every night it had seemed.
But this morning was different, life’s death it had deemed.

Jesus will come back on a white horse, Bible’s told. (Revelation 19:11)
So animals are in heaven; now I’m being bold.
The Donkey, named Balaam, saw angels and talked to his master. (Numbers 22:28)
He was a faithful servant and who deserved heaven’s pastures.

I see her in Heaven with Belea, an animal lover passed.
Playing with lots of children and wide open grass.
Carolina and toddler, Emily, stick in her hand
Covered every dirt road and bug on this land.

All in all, you will never find a more devoted dog.
We’ll make her a Cross grave from a big Georgia log.
She’s buried on our LivelyLea family land.
With the help of a dear cousin, deep in clay sand.

She loved all her blankets and so, one was there.
Cuddling her closely, as nature would dare.
It was chilly and slightly raining, but just a little doss.
A perfect sign of God’s caring, of my very special loss.

She loved to run free between these old Georgia pines.
Servant of Jesus and Man, sweet dreams may you find!
Rest in Peace, OUR SWEET CAROLINA!
We will see you someday, in a land, much kinder.
